This page has several testimonies of our church members.  LBC members: we need your testimonies!  Please give them to Pastor Bobby at church or email them to the webmaster.

First of all I would like to thank my Heavenly Father, the Lord Jesus Christ, and Pastor Bobby.  I went to church growing up, but like some teens, I didn't pay attention all that well.  I was introduced to Lighthouse Baptist Church through the Awana program.  My children started attending the Awana program and on that first night when I picked them up, they weren't fighting or arguing.  They did nothing but talk to each other with love and respect. Then the next week when dropping the girls off for Awana, Pastor Bobby invited us to church the next Sunday. He told me that if we came to church, he would run around the whole church building.  We came to church that Sunday, and after the evening service Pastor Bobby ran around the building as promised, and we have been coming to church since then.

Pastor Bobby came to our home and counseled with our family; we all joined on Mother's Day 2002.  Pastor Bobby has really helped our family in many ways; we love him for that.  I no longer listen to secular music, I love Christian music, especially the Jody Brown Indian Family.  I'm an Awana leader, a choir member, and faithfully attend each church service.  I am glad to have Pastor Bobby and the Lighthouse Baptist Church family in my life; I have found salvation through the Lord; I feel closer to God than ever before, and IT FEELS GREAT!!!

First of all I want thank the Lord Jesus Christ for my salvation. I gave my life to the Lord in May 2002. I would like to thank all of my new church family for their support and prayers. Now that I am saved I look back on life and think, how did I survive for 32 years without the Lord in my life?  For all of those who have not found the Lord as their personal Savior, YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING!

I need to give a special thanks to the Lighthouse Baptist Church Awana ministry.   If it was not for this ministry I would not be saved today. God brought the Awana ministry into my children’s life and then the Awana ministry brought God into mine.

Since I accepted the Lord as my personal Savior my life is so much better, my job has gotten better, my relationship with my wife is much better. A special thanks goes out to Pastor Bobby Garvin for his support and friendship. I have been to several churches in my life and Lighthouse Baptist is the BEST.  My goal now is to lead as many people I can to the Lord. I will now have a chance to do so now that I am a leader in the Awana Ministry.

On December 11, 1973 I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and rejected Satan and all of his worldly temptations; I  serve my Master, Jesus Christ.  I  fall short many, many times, but my Master, Jesus Christ is always there to pick me up and carry me to the finish line.  Every thing that I have, I owe to my Lord; His greatest gift, salvation, as well as the many material blessings He has given me in life: a great wife, fine children, good health, and a dream job, good friends and neighbors, and most importantly, a spirit-filled church (Lighthouse).  I have learned to trust in the LORD; give your heart and soul to Jesus, and God will do the rest.

Carolyn Mc.

Having been saved since the age of 12, I have sat under preachers who you knew without a doubt were spirit-filled. As an adult I began to feel discouraged.  I saw so much compromise within the churches it began to be hard for me to tell where the church began and the world began. As my children started to grow up the situation just seemed to worsen. I was looking for a church to set down roots in that was Bible-based, but I didn't want to just shop around. Lighthouse Baptist was recommended to me by my sister-in-law. I figured I would give it a try. After getting to know the members and sitting under Pastor Bobby's preaching my husband and I knew we had found a home.

The move from my old church wasn't easy. My family still has a hard time dealing with it. I pray one day they will understand. As the years have now gone by and I have gotten to really know her people; they, her Pastor and his family have come to be very special to us. Pastor preaches the Word as God would have us to know, even if it steps on all our toes.

This year, I feel, has drawn us even closer. We have gone thru life and death together. As most know, my daughter (Stefanie) almost died twice at Easter. I believe with my whole heart and soul that without us as a congregation coming together in prayer for my Stef she would not be here today. As I sat in the hospital I could feel everyone's prayers. As well as healing her, it gave us strength to help her. Never underestimate the power of prayer! When a congregation unites as we did, God has to answer that prayer!

I hold this congregation up to Him in my daily prayers. I ask a special blessing on it's Pastor as he has so much to deal with, as well as preach God's word. I thank each member and person for their support and prayers for my family this year. All of you have become very special to me. I finally have found a church home like I had as a child at Lighthouse.

Dale S.

My name is Dale and I have been a Christian since 1968.  I had just moved to Charleston and was living with my aunt and uncle while attending college.  My aunt has always been my mentor and is a wonderful example of a true Christian.  We were having revival at her church and I was so moved after hearing the minister speak.  The peace and joy I experienced after asking Jesus into my heart was something that cannot be explained fully in words.

I was reared in a good family and always attended church but never understood that salvation was a personal experience.  My earlier teachers taught me that as long as I attended church and was a good person, my life was O.K.  After teachings and talks with my aunt, I realized that it had to be a personal experience with Jesus. This is a decision that I have never regretted.  Please believe me when I tell you that it has not always been an easy road- I have fallen short, disappointed the Lord, and strayed.  The most wonderful thing about Jesus is that he never moves and never gives up on his children.  I always related my relationship to Christ with my relationship to my children.  No matter what they may do, how far they may stray or disappoint me, I will always be there for them and love them wholeheartedly. How much greater is his love for me.

I have attended Lighthouse Baptist Church for the last three years, and in the last year I have grown so much closer to God with Pastor Bobby's teachings and his ministry.  He speaks on a level that is so easy to understand and is very straight forward.  I especially like this in a person.  He is not only my pastor, he is my friend.  He always encourages me with a phone call, a note, or a visit.  I have seen a wonderful change in his ministry since the beginning of this year-he truly is a great man of God.  I love the people, his family, and am encouraged by the growth and expansion I have witnessed in these last three years.  This church has been so wonderful to my family and supported us through many trying times. I know that I am always in their prayers.

I must say that I do not want to uplift up Lighthouse Baptist Church as much as I do my Lord.  I want to always be mindful of the fact that JESUS is my Lord and Savior, and the church, the minister, and the people are only vessels to draw us closer to him.  I want our church to continue to grow, but never lose sight of our meager beginnings and become "too big".

I am especially thankful to the ladies of our church for the wonderful ministry given to the assisted living home where my mother resides.  Because of this ministry, my mother is now closer to the Lord and attending church on a regular basis.  Thank you Pastor Bobby and all the members of Lighthouse Baptist Church for being the light that shineth in a dark place to me and my family.

I really don't know how to write all of this but I believe it should be shared.   On April 15, 2002 I was in a car accident.  I ended up having a concussion, fractured collar bone, punctured lung, fractured jaw, fractured pelvis, torn diaphragm, ruptured spleen, and an aneurysm.  Now I have always been a Christian but I have never been very spiritual.  During the accident my car stopped suddenly after it hit the first tree.  While the car was stopped for this split second I felt arms come around my chest like you do when someone is pulling someone backwards.  I was pulled out of my car and dropped on the ground.  My first thought of course was for the driver of my car.  The only thing going through my head at the time was his name.  I tried crawling back to the car and felt arms go around my waist, pulling me back to my original position on the ground.  I remember looking at the face of a man that pulled me out of the car that night and it was the face of my grandfather that died in 1992 when I was only 10 years old.  He stayed with me until the highway patrol pulled up and when they got out of their cars and got to me he was gone.  They told my family that night that there was a man with me but the only cars that were there were mine and theirs.  That night in the E.R .  they only found the less serious injuries.  The following Wednesday my left lung collapsed again, so they knew something was wrong.  For three days the Lord helped my heart so that I could go into surgery when I was strong enough.  Then on the day of my surgery the doctors came out at 2 pm  and told my parents that I wasn't going to live through the operation.  At five that evening my mom and dad were told they had a very strong daughter and that I was ok.  The Lord gave the doctor the strength to pull me through that surgery.

I have to honestly tell you that Lighthouse Baptist Church is one of the best churches I have ever been to.  Pastor Bobby came and stayed with my family and me from Wednesday until Saturday.  When he got the phone call about my surgery he was heading out the door to come to us.  He told us that he felt that his place was there with us.  The church family, what can I say about them!  They are some of the most loving people I have ever known.  They took up a love offering to help us pay for "out bills" because they knew that my family was out of work having to come to Tallahassee.  They were praying for me even before I had my accident.  I knew that I was in their hearts and prayers.  They took care of my family in our time of need.  While Pastor Bobby was in Tallahassee he took care of my mom and my boyfriend.  He did everything he could for us.  I believe he went above and beyond the call of duty.  I don't know what else I can say, but that the spirit of God is definitely in this church like I have never felt before.

Give all your worries to HIM because HE cares about you.  HE will make you strong and support you.   Jesus, our Lord and Savior, has helped my family through personal loss, trials, and tribulations.   Pastor Bobby has done more for our family than any other man of God.  He definitely cares about his church family.  The Garvin family and Lighthouse church family have blessed us with their love and compassion, their friendship, their strength in more ways than anyone can imagine. We know that God led us to this church because HE knew we needed a FAMILY!  Thank you Pastor Bobby and our family at Lighthouse!

Deborah M.

My name is Deborah.  I was born in Charleston, SC.  I was saved and baptized at the age of six at Hanahan Baptist Church.  Because my husband was in the military we have moved a lot, and have been able to see a lot of churches.  God put many different people in my life that way.  While we were stationed in Hawaii, we were members of Ohana Baptist Church.  I was actively involved with Ohana.  Then about 2 years before we left, God called my mom home to be with the Lord.  This was a big event in my life.  But, I know that she is with her Savior and is happy.  Then God called us to Kansas City, Mo.  While stationed there we belonged to Southland Baptist Church; I sang in the choir and was a AWANA cubbies leader.  Now that we are back in Charleston and retired from the military, God has led us back to Lighthouse Baptist Church.  Since we joined in April 2000 we are actively involved with Lighthouse.  I have seen our family grow closer to God.    Lighthouse Baptist Church is a true blessing to our family.  We are very excited about what God is still doing in our lives and what is to come!
